Twist Return with Sophomore Album 'Distancing'
Hear the lead-off single "Venus" via a new video
Published Oct 12, 2018Toronto's Twist have at long last announced their sophomore album. Titled Distancing, the release will arrive on December 7 via Buzz Records.
The album follows Spectral, the 2016 debut full-length by the duo of Laura Hermiston of BB Guns and Holy Fuck's Brian Borcherdt. For a taste of what's in store, you can hear the new song "Venus," which has arrived via a video.
In addition to Hermiston and Borcherdt, the new album finds the duo joined by members of Zeus, Biblical and Michael Rault's backing band in the studio. The resulting 10 tracks were captured during a series of sessions at Toronto's Palace and Union Sound studios before being mixing by Michael Butler (Beta Frontiers).
According to a press release, "When she began the writing of a sophomore album, Hermiston took stock of her shifting surroundings in a life that exists in a constant state of flux. Examining her experiences with bad habits, unhealthy relationships, and the pervasive sexism of authority figures, she channelled these desires for distance from negative forces into a thematically cohesive collection of songs."
In a statement, Hermiston said, "I don't think this record is making any big statements on the complex world we're living in right now. I write about my experiences with sexism and people who act entitled to take advantage of you because that's what I feel like I can comment on honestly. In the past I've felt like my voice isn't heard and had to bite my tongue to avoid stirring up drama. I wanted to speak up about my personal experiences while still saying something universal."
Down below, you'll find the album's tracklist, as well as some upcoming tour dates and that video for "Venus."
