Peter Hook Explores His New Order Years in New Autobiography
Published Aug 03, 2016Despite years' worth of bitter legal battles with his old band New Order, Peter Hook is once again looking back on his glory days with the group. This time it will be via a massive 768-page autobiography.
Called Substance: Inside New Order, the book follows his 2013 literary effort Unknown Pleasures: Inside Joy Division and is due out on October 6 via Simon & Schuster UK.
According to the new book's description, "Peter Hook has written a no-holds-barred, comprehensive account of the band's entire history, packed with outrageous anecdotes and including every set list and tour itinerary and interspersed with 'geek facts' of every piece of electronic equipment used to forge the sound that changed the direction of popular music."
The book will cover the formation of New Order in the wake of Joy Division vocalist Ian Curtis's suicide. Hook wrote, "We didn't really think about it afterwards. It just sort of happened. One day we were Joy Division, then our lead singer killed himself and the next time we got together, we were a new band..."
The book is also expected to cover Hook's very public and nasty split from New Order, as well as no doubt other less contentious topics.
As previously reported, Peter Hook & the Light will be playing the Substance collections on tour here in North America come the fall. You can see all the upcoming dates here.
