Published Sep 11, 2020Though New York City is one of the world's biggest hubs for arts and culture, the city's New Colossus Festival has given Canadian music plenty of focus during their two annual instalments, with multiple showcases devoted to the country's best new artists. This month, Exclaim! is teaming up with the festival to continue that trend with the Upstairs Neighbours livestream sessions.
Running as part of the New Colossus Sessions livestreams every Friday at 5PM ET on the fest's Facebook and YouTube, this month's instalments will feature different Canadian acts, starting tonight, September 11, with Toronto shoegazers Sahara. September 18's edition will feature Winnipeg dream popster Living Hour. The Canadian celebrations will conclude on September 25 with Montreal noisemaker Paul Jacobs.
"Since the pandemic began, we've been quite aware of the continuing financial struggle for survival of artists and musicians. It's one of the main reasons that we started The New Colossus Sessions as an outlet for them to reconnect with an audience and continue to perform publicly. We're also concerned about all of our friends and colleagues in the music industry, especially the survival our venue partners," say the New Colossus organizers in a statement.
