The Sadies to Kick Off the Horseshoe Tavern's "Horseshoe Hootenanny" Concert Series
Published Aug 13, 2020For the first time ever, Toronto's legendary Horseshoe Tavern will broadcast a video performance from inside the venue for fans thirsty for live music in the era of COVID-19. And to help kick things off will be none other than hometown heroes the Sadies.
Beginning next month, the Horseshoe will host bands playing "fully electric, professionally shot and mixed, nothing pre-taped — direct and live to air from its legendary stage," for its new livestream concert series called "Horseshoe Hootenanny."
The inaugural show will see the Sadies performing for the Horseshoe's first-ever live video broadcast in its 73 years of operation.
"In the past 25 years, we've hosted a ton of live-to-air radio broadcasts via CBC and community radio," owner and talent buyer Craig Laskey said in a statement. "However, we've never video livestreamed a concert!"
The Sadies will take to the Queen Street venue stage on September 12 at 8:30 p.m. ET. Advance tickets for the show are on sale now via Eventbrite for $12. And the best part — anyone from across the country can tune in.
"Hootenanny" mastermind and special events coordinator Tara King Cohen brought this experience to the Horseshoe to keep fans, bands and, of course, the venue itself, active while we all await live music's return to normal.
"I look at this as a placeholder of sorts," she said. "No question we'd all much rather get back to heading down to venues like the 'Shoe to catch a great band but since we don't know when that is going to happen, why continually lament missing it?"
She added: "Why not just create it and bring it to folks live in the comfort of their living room? Even better — let's broadcast the damn thing right across the country!"
Head to the Horseshoe's website for more information, and get your tickets to the inaugural Hootenanny over at Eventbrite.
All proceeds from the first livestream will go towards supporting the Sadies.
