Simu Liu Advances to 'Celebrity Jeopardy!' Semifinals
Simu Liu — of Shang-Chi, Kim's Convenience and the "co-worker" search term on Getty Images — had an incredible underdog trajectory on Sunday's (September 25) season premiere of Celebrity Jeopardy!, coming from behind to nab the win and advance to the semifinals.

Despite trailing his competitors, including comedian Andy Richter and Saturday Night Live cast member Ego Nwodim, the actor rose from the ashes in a redemption-arc trajectory that surprised no one more than himself.

"Not me WINNING CELEBRITY JEOPARDY and realizing I could no longer make my dinner plans later that day because I had to compete in semis," the ever-humble Liu tweeted yesterday (September 26) alongside a screencap of himself on the show, jaw agape as he is declared the winner.

Richter was the favourite to win, having previously won in 2009 but unable to return for the semifinals. "Conan [O'Brien] and I had lost The Tonight Show, and he was prohibited from being on television, so we went on tour in order to keep the band paid," the comedian explained on this weekend's episode.

"He lost his chance at victory and now he's back with a vengeance and ready to take it all," Liu said of "main character" Richter. "I'm just a side character. I'm just standing in his way."

But that side character turned out to be a dark horse. Wagering all $11,600 USD of his earnings on his Final Jeopardy! answer, he got it right — and Richter got it wrong, his $21,100 knocked down to $18,900. Liu won the round with $23,200.

Tune in this Sunday (October 2) to see if Toronto's very own can win it all (and please, stop giving him gameplay advice on Twitter).
