'Game of Thrones' Prequel 'Tales of Dunk and Egg' Reportedly Being Developed by HBO
Published Jan 21, 2021While we've yet to get any of the promised Game of Thrones spinoffs, HBO is now apparently getting to work on another one. This time, the network is reportedly setting its sights on George R.R. Martin's light-hearted prequel series Tales of Dunk and Egg.
The news comes via Variety, which reports that, according to sources, HBO is currently developing the series. However, development is still very much in the early stages.
For the unfamiliar, Tales of Dunk and Egg is made up of three novellas: 1998's "The Hedge Knight," 2003's "The Sworn Sword" and 2010's "The Mystery Knight." The stories follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and the young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) 90 years before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire. And spoiler: Egg is the brother of the Wall's beloved Maester Aemon, who at one point references Egg in the series.
Already, Tales of Dunk and Egg was treated to a series of graphic novels.
At this point, there's no other details of what HBO has in store for the series, and the network declined to comment when asked by Variety.
We do know, however, that GoT prequel series House of the Dragon is incoming, most likely in 2022.
