Published Mar 07, 2018Before releasing his Big Fish Theory LP last year, Vince Staples spoke to Exclaim! about online haters and the distracting nature of social media. Now, he's asking his detractors to put their money where their mouth is with a new crowdfunding campaign.
Staples' #GTFOMD campaign, an acronym for "Get the Fuck Off My Dick," finds the rapper in search of a cool $2 million USD. As he explains in an accompanying video, he and his team have got complaints about recent performances lacking energy and his choice to rap on "robot videogame beats."
Staples explains that the large sum of cash will allow him "to shut the fuck up forever and you will never hear from me again. No songs, no interviews, no anything."
He adds that the alternative is to "let me do what the fuck I want to do, when I want to do it" by not donating.
"Get off of my dick, or fund my lifestyle," he says in the clip. "The choice is yours."
As of press time, Staples' campaign has raked in $362. He indicates on the campaign page that the cash will also allow him to "move to Palmdale, buy a Honda," buy a "year supply of soups for the homies locked down" and "buy a puppy."
