Published Mar 27, 2018Simian Mobile Disco have been forced to cancel an upcoming tour of North America after member Jas Shaw's diagnosis with AL amyloidosis, a rare condition in which bone marrow produces abnormal antibodies proteins that can affect the heart, kidneys, skin, nerves and liver.
In a statement posted to their social media channels, the group revealed that Shaw (pictured left) is receiving treatment, though he'll be unable to tour. They added that live performances "will have to be put on hold for at least a few months."
"We are hopeful that following treatment, he will be able to return to a full work schedule but we're currently not in a position to confirm when this will be," the band continued. "Our upcoming Murmurations show at the Barbican in London on the 4th of April will still happen as planned but will be the final SMD live show for a while."
The band's show on April 4 will see them play their forthcoming LP Murmurations in its entirety. They also announced that all profits from the performance will be donated to the UCL Amyloidosis research fund.
Murmurations is set to arrive May 11 through Wichita Recordings. Find the band's complete statement below.
