Published May 08, 2015There's no denying Lucki Eck$ has talent. In his short career, the young Chicago rapper has collaborated with Chance the Rapper, Danny Brown, and FKA Twigs, to name a few. His 2014 mixtape Body High, full of woozy tales of drug slinging and growing up in an unforgiving city over spacious, Clam Casino-esque beats and a filtered version of Bjork's "A Hidden Place," was underrated but positively received.
Unfortunately, his opening set for rising Toronto emcee Jazz Cartier was disappointing, with Eck$ failing to rouse the sold-out venue and displaying little of the charisma he's shown on his releases. Dressed in a pink camo hoodie, he performed in front of kaleidoscope projections of nebulas and pharmaceuticals, befitting of his hazy raps. Offering little in the way of crowd interaction, the rapper seemed like he'd rather be anywhere else, which made his 20 minutes feel a lot longer.
