Published Jun 20, 2012Earlier this year, ornate and moody Aussie trio Dirty Three got back in the game with Toward the Low Sun, their first album since 2005's Cinder. While the band managed to play the occasional show throughout that gap, it feels like forever since the troupe rolled out some North American tour dates. Thankfully, the outfit are up to the task this fall.
Warren Ellis, Mick Turner and Jim White will be heading our way come September. Canada gets the first taste, as the tour opener takes place at Montreal's Ukrainian Federation on September 20. After dipping into the U.S. for a handful of shows, the band make their way back to Canada for a gig at Vancouver's Biltmore Cabaret October 1. You can check the rest of the tour schedule down below.
Ellis had recently confided to Exclaim! that it had indeed been a long time since his band hit the circuit. But despite Ellis's soundtrack work with Nick Cave, as well as playing in the Bad Seeds and Grinderman, and White's jazzy drum work with Nina Nastasia, among other outside projects, the band were never truly on hiatus. Whatever you do, don't call this a comeback.
"Seven years is long enough to justify a fucking comeback tour in some band's eyes," Ellis said. "You see these groups getting back together and I can't even remember when they split up, but you think, 'No, surely it can't be a reformation, it's like six or seven years ago that they stopped,' and they are greeted with open arms. It's just tragic."
