Published Oct 05, 2017One-of-a-kind Calgary artist Chad VanGaalen recently returned with his Light Information LP, but that's not the only fresh material he's got for fans to dig into. Today (October 5) also marks the wide release of his long-awaited animated film TARBOZ.
The film, which has been in the works for half a decade, was premiered at Calgary's GIRAF festival in 2015. Today, the rest of the world can enjoy it thanks to an online stream.
"TARBOZ was planned as the first episode of Translated Log of Inhabitants, and was an experiment to see if i could make a long-form improvised animation and still get out alive," VanGaalen said in a statement, explaining that Translated Log was an origin story for the characters that inhabit his projects.
"It expands a universe that I had already been developing in my own music videos, as well as ones for other bands," he added. "The videos for 'Peace on the Rise' as well as ones for Black Mountain and Shabazz Palaces all exist in the same world (at least in my head)."
